Retailers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are required by law to offer customers buying a new electrical product a free method of recycling a similar unwanted item. Up to now they either have to take the waste item back into store or join the Distributor Take-Back Scheme (DTS). Nearly three years ago the DTS cost around 3,500 retailers £10 million in registration fees. Now there is another option; WeeeCollect is a unique national service established by the WasteCare group. WeeeCollect is run on a voluntary subscription basis and the joining fee is as little as £40 for three years.

WEEE isn't yet the law of the land over here in the U.S., but some manufacturers are starting to make voluntary efforts to make end-of-life recycling simpler. We've got cradle to cradle office furniture manufacturers as well as office equipment vendors. It's pretty simple to find someone who will refurbish your outdated furnishings in this economy. Pre-owned office furniture is a very cost effective choice for companies of all sizes.
